You're a great teacher and mentor. Keep it up. If you don't hear it enough, you're making a huge impact on these young people. I'm so glad my kids had the privilege to work with you.
Dr. Joe Gilman | Music Professor
I got your CD and have listened to it a few times. It is really great. I really like your compositions. You have found a way to make atonality and dissonance sound really beautiful. And the pieces work as a unified whole. I wouldn't change a thing. And I like your performances of them as well, both piano and soprano. You know your music and it sounds very personal.
I always try to figure out the influences when I listen, And I know Debussy, Ravel, and Satie keep popping up.
I don't hear so much of that.. I hear more later French composers, like early Messaien (preludes) or the group of composers known as "les Six"....Talliferre, Milhaud, Auric, Honneger, Poulenc...
Then on the jazz side I hear that pianist I told you about (Michael Cain) but also some Kenny Wheeler.
Anyway, great stuff. It makes me want to write, and it makes me want to write like that!

I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy having you on the stage. You are one of three sax players that I have encountered over 25 years that I can trust with the fader wide open for the whole time without fear of the all skate all the time solo on top of solo approach. What amazing tastefully displayed talent... You can quote me on this...

Thank you again for all that you do. Music has always been very therapeutic for Brigitte and it’s a wonderful outlet she enjoys very much. She has grown quite a bit with your help. I appreciate that you are creative enough to do the lessons via zoom
because we have been very cautious, and I wouldn’t want her to miss out on the lessons.
Matt J | Student
Great to work with. Very knowledgeable and an extremely talented musician.
Anne Davis | Student

Thanks for everything you’ve contributed to this program.

Just a note. Nico was invited to try out for the Western Slopes Honor Band which is a county wide all-star band. Anyhow, he was selected as 1st chair Bari sax and will be performing in several
performances. Your lessons are paying dividends.

I have been meaning to write you for weeks but i have not been able to formulate a description of what has happened to my piano playing. Your note to me and you prescription for improvement was taken to heart and I have experienced a major breakthough. I am able to see the 2 5 1 combinations, I am tackling the minor keys (which has open up a new and exciting dimension to my music) and I am beginning to solo because I can see the key changes. My confidence level has improved causing me to play with a more relaxed style. All good. Thank you!
Christina Von Ebbe
Thank you for letting me know how she is doing. She is always positive and excited when she comes back home from your lessons. Often, she gets her flute out and plays! It's great, I love it! So, it is me that would like to thank you! I get to hear great music everyday here at home and I get to see how happy it makes Stephanie. THANK YOU!!!
Eli Garza
Thank you Grant. I honestly couldn't have done it without your excellent mentoring, so I appreciate you. See you next week!

Glad you're still educating the youth's of Folsom in the ways of jazz. I recently took some time to analyze a Toru Takemitsu score that you showed me once in high school, great music, and I actually knew what I was looking at this time! So I'm about to graduate with a music degree in a few months and I want to thank you for everything you taught me, you are a great teacher and I could not have done this without you, and even more importantly, I don't think I would've wanted to do this if it weren't for you.
Anne and Ed Nickerson
Grant. You were such a big part of Daniel growing into who he is today, and Ed and I are so grateful, you taught him so much more than just how to read the notes on a page and play a piece of music. It'll be something to watch where his love of music takes him. It's so weird for two physical therapists to have two such creative kids! I don't know much about it, but I'm a great fan!
Shelly Frost
Btw - he loves working with you & has found his inner Jazz master it seems - thank you!
Tana
Hi Grant! Thank you for a wonderful lesson.... so inspiring! I had little bits of time this afternoon to try out a few things you showed me. I really like the stacked 4ths idea, and have been thinking about making more complex harmonies. I am looking forward to learning more about Jazz chords. Thank you again, it was a blessing!

Hey Grant! It's Amber! :) How are you doing?! I just happened to stumble across your page while I was looking around online for some jazz stuff. Amazing music, by the way. I miss my jazz piano lessons. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello! :) and thank you for everything you've done for me. :)

You're such a great talent! I hope we get a chance to work more together in the new year.

I just heard some stuff you sent to Wade for those young kids. Nothing less than impressive...really beautiful and appropriate.
Doesn't surprise me...but it sure impresses me! Well done, dear Bro.

Thanks Grant! LOL! I'm sitting in bed playing all my super Locrian scales in my head (imagination). You're right, it's easier to build
them as diminished whole tones. Awesome lesson!!!
Tara Page
Thanks Grant, I will get it to him. You have been a huge addition to his music experience. Having you as an instructor really motivated him. You certainly took him to the next level of musicianship. You are wonderful!

That is very cool Grant! You are a great producer. Sounds very hip, yet definitely in the idiom that Jake wants to hit.
Hope we can do more!

I too am a fan of your compositions, which I remember so fondly a few years ago. My only regret, as it is for many projects, is finding the time to be involved and practice and do justice to the music. Take care Grant and my best to you always!

Mark Maxwell | Composer, Saxophone Artist
I know this guy, a friend of mine, a sax player, lives in the Sacramento area. His name is Grant Reeves. Grant is an amazing guy. In a number of ways, actually, but the way I’m thinking about at the moment is his arranging and recording ability. Check this out: he and I were involved in the recent release of the Perry Mills Project CD. He wrote, arranged, and recorded all the sax section and solo parts on that CD (except for the one solo I played), and they are truly remarkable, but Grant’s arrangements and performances stand out. All the background horn parts are Grant’s, and he played all the horn lines. The horn section work throughout the whole song is so tight, beautiful, and hip – a joy to listen to. He writes bari parts that kill! We played all these songs in concert last summer, up in Sacramento; Grant and I played the horn parts. Let me tell you, reading those charts was like deciphering calculus – very complex! But beautiful!

Grant is a phenomenal artist and musician. As a performing sax player Grant possesses a gorgeous tone with dynamic range and feel and as a keyboardist and Composer, Grant's orchestral soundtrack, R&B, jazz and mixed genre work is nothing short of astounding. Having produced several of my CD projects, Grant's ability to distinguish the unique and compelling aspects of my work and his careful guidance as I develop my songs, compositions and performance style, has yielded beautifully polished product. These opportunities to work with Grant developing my own artistry and product have truly been the most rich and fulfilling experiences of my life. I highly recommend Grant as a sensitive, brilliant Educator and Producer for Musical Artists who wish to realize their full potential.
